Guru Gobind Singh ji was the 10th Sikh Guru who was a spiritual master, warrior, poet and philosopher. He was a role model for his numerous followers as he played an instrumental role in creating an Army of bravehearts against the ruthless Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
At a tender age of nine, he was appointed the Sikh Leader/Guru after the martyrdom of his revered father, Guru Teg Bahadurji. A fearless warrior and a true ‘Singh’ ( Lion), he annointed many volunteers to become the gallant soldiers of his daunting army.
The anthem he created, to motivate and inspire the Sikhs to fight against the enemy, is indeed worth remembering. It goads all of us to stand up against atrocities and injustice. It teaches us to bow our heads infront of the almighty and pray for huge reservoirs of strength to negotiate life in the most meaningful and empowering way. ‘निश्चय कर अपनी जीत करूँ’ is an invocation to the undying spirit of humans.
